Women's sleep and weight management

Objective:

The objective of the study was to explore the ingredients/technologies that could have a positive impact on Women's sleep and weight management.

Background:

Overweight and obesity is prevalent among women of reproductive age (25-34 years) with 42% having a body mass index (BMI) > 25 kg/m2. Having children is associated with maternal weight gain, particularly in the long term. Fifty to eighty percent of women retain 1.4-5 kg up to 12 months postpartum, with 20%-50% retaining 5 kg or more. Weight gain increases the risk of developing diabetes and heart disease. There are evidence suggesting that post-partum weight retention is an issue for the general health status of the woman as well as for future pregnancies and breastfeeding outcomes. Accordingly, there is a need for supplements that can assist mothers in weight loss during extended, but partial lactation and/or when lactation stops. Food is typically the primary source of obtaining the necessary nutrients; however, the majority of people do not eat foods that consistently provide the necessary daily requirements of vitamins and minerals. Thus, vitamin and mineral nutritional supplementation has become a recognized method of meeting accepted medical and health standards.
