Even Skin tone

Objective:

The objective of the study is to identify = the problems & solutions associated with various formulations or ingredients of skin whitening and make recommendations based on technology problems.

Background:

Skin whitening, also known as skin lightening and skin bleaching, refers to the practice of using chemical substances in an attempt to lighten the skin or provide an even skin color by reducing the melanin concentration in the skin. Many of them are known as competitive inhibitors of tyrosinase, the key enzyme in melanogenesis. Skin whitening agents are also utilized for the clinical treatment of pigmentary disorders such as melasma or postinflammatory hyperpigmentation. Many skin whitening compositions with artificial ingredients can cause skin allergies in people with sensitive skin and negative effects, such as wrinkles and peeling of the skin.

Therefore the study should also consider the following parameters:
  • No skin-irritating agent, such as acids/ alcohols used in the formulation.
  • An additional effect of formulation other than whitening, e.g. UV protection.
  • Route of administration other than topical (minimal pain administration).
  • Sustainability.

What we did

The study aimed at answering the following questions based on the scope::

  • What agents are used as skin-whitening agents? Formulations of whitening agents with a higher degree of functionality.
  • What are product forms, such as cream, lotion, and powder of skin whitening agents?
  • What natural source ingredients or non-synthetic agents are in marketed products?
  • Trends based on the answers to the above points which can help to predict technology growth in the future.
  • What solutions are available in skin whitening domain? What will be the future of skin whitening composition based on patent & non-patent trend analysis on agent deck or focus on sustainability, natural, organic?
  • Who is doing what in the domain, thus recommendation or licensing opportunity of technology can be derived?

Project Timeline:The study was executed and delivered in 6 weeks.
